Founded by a team with diverse backgrounds and complementary strengths, the garage was created around a simple idea: motorsport should be more approachable, more transparent, and better supported for the people chasing it.
Justin MCBEE
Justin McBee is the co-founder of Stage Zero Garage, bringing a lifelong love of motorsport and hands-on mechanical experience to the shop, from childhood ATC racing to years as a body man and mechanic at Sun City Auto Body and Midway Chevrolet to drag racing his ‘71 Cutlass Supreme. After discovering RallyCross through his girlfriend Jen Lux in the early 2010s, he teamed up with Sean Spring to build "The Deforester” — a 2002 Subaru Forester — turning a long-held dream of competing in Stage Rally events including Prescott, Ridge, and Colorado. Outside the shop, Justin has spent nearly two decades as a presales audio-visual engineer at Logicalis, giving him a steady technical career alongside his motorsport pursuits. At Stage Zero Garage, he's focused on helping other people build their own dream cars and find their way into racing, just as he did with the Deforester.
Philip Mickleborough
Philip Mickleborough is the co-founder of Stage Zero Garage, having been around motorsport since birth. Beginning with stock car influences and classic car builds, he brings a lifelong motorsport background as a mechanic, fabricator, builder, race engineer, crew chief, and driver, with professional work in historic touring and GT competition and involvement in championship-winning programs in the U.S., the UK, and Europe; his competition experience spans endurance road racing, SCCA RallyCross, ARA rally, and autocross. With a Master’s in Mathematics and a systems-based approach to vehicle dynamics, Philip is known for combining analytical thinking with practical execution, particularly in chassis setup, race prep, reliability, and full-program support from shop to track. His work is rooted in the belief that successful race cars are built not just to be fast, but to be durable, serviceable, and effective in real competition. At Stage Zero Garage, he is especially passionate about helping new competitors enter motorsport with honest advice, strong technical support, and cars built to stay in the game.
Sean Spring
Sean Spring discovered SCCA RallyCross in his late twenties, turning a lifelong passion for cars into six years of competition, community building, and hands-on motorsports experience. As a co-founder of the Arizona Rally Association and Stage Zero Garage, Sean is passionate about making motorsports more accessible and helping others succeed. His background in nursing has reinforced the importance of preparation, safety, communication, and staying calm under pressure—principles he brings to every project. Whether preparing a car for its first event or supporting an experienced competitor, Sean believes in quality workmanship, honest communication, and solving problems collaboratively. For him, motorsports is ultimately about building capable cars, capable drivers, and a stronger community.
